Smiling Graduates

It’s the photograph that will hang on the walls of your parents, and grandparents, and aunts and uncles for the rest of their lives. With graduation ceremonies coming up for Universities across the country, proud parents will be preparing to spend a bit extra to get that traditional gown and scroll portrait of their child to take pride of place above the mantelpiece—and perhaps one or two (or more) smaller copies to send to relatives. Good News for Dentophobics

We’ve looked recently at some methods to alleviate the anxiety some feel when visiting the dentist, including natural remedies and the pharmaceutical alternatives currently being explored in the US. Good news, then, that the UK Department of Health’s recent press release on ‘Psychological Therapies offered across the NHS’ details how new NHS psychological therapy initiatives can benefit those suffering from dental-related anxiety. The DoH published this press release in response to Health Secretary Andrew Lansley’s announcement earlier this week that the NHS will continue to roll out psychological therapies across all areas. Anxiety Free Dentistry

Keep Calm for Cosmetic Dentistry

Last month we talked about the anxiety that many people about visiting the dentist so we were very interested to find out that some dental surgeries are using scents to try and calm anxious patients. A study was carried on that showed the scent of lavender had a calming effect on people waiting for treatment in dental clinics. Oddly enough those who were exposed to the scent of Lavender in the study reported that they were significantly less anxious than those who were not. (more…)
