Can a Perfect Smile Give Your Career a Boost?
A recent study carried out by the cosmetic surgery chat show MyFaceMyBody revealed some surprising statistics relating to how people feel cosmetic surgery, can impact their careers. The study was focussed on finding out how important people felt enhancing their appearance was in getting ahead in the workplace.
The study sampled some 620 people online, and on the street in London and Liverpool. The study found that two-thirds of women and 83% of men believe their looks play a part in getting hired, getting a promotion or winning new clients.
While approximately one in ten said they would consider undergoing a surgical procedure to help enhance their competitiveness on the job market, and five percent said they had already done so, a staggering 73% of women, and 28% of men said they would consider non-surgical treatments such as teeth whitening.
When asked what aspect of their appearance people felt that some improvement would most likely help them, a quarter of those polled said ‘teeth’. Perhaps more interesting is the statistic illustrating what people feel stops them from going through with any form of cosmetic improvement. Three-fifths replied that cost was the major inhibiting factor, one-fifth didn’t think they had the time and one-sixth replied a fear of painful procedures.
It is interesting in times of recession and job-scarcity just what people consider makes them more employable. Ultimately, confidence is all-important for success in the work place, and if cosmetic dentistry improves somebody’s confidence, then there’s no reason to say that it doesn’t help improve their job prospects.
