Why not put some cosmetic dentistry from London dentists into your Christmas stocking?

Christmas shopping can be stressful, especially if you have a friend or family member who already has everything or somebody on your present list who happens to be very demanding. If this is the case and you find yourself stressing about the endless search for the perfect gift, why not consider giving cosmetic dental treatment?

Cosmetic dental treatments

Cosmetic dentistry has become incredibly popular during the last few years and more and more people are visiting the dentist to get their dream smile. Celebrities have gone mad for cosmetic treatments and many have followed in their footsteps in a bid to recreate the Hollywood style smile. Adult orthodontics has also enjoyed a boom period, as new treatments have become readily available and treatment times have been reduced.

The aim of cosmetic dental treatments is to improve and enhance the aesthetics of your smile. It is rare to have a naturally flawless smile and there is now a huge range of treatments, from tooth whitening to a smile makeover, which can give you a beautiful smile.

Which treatment should I go for?

If you want to give someone a special, unique gift this Christmas there are a number of treatments available.

Tooth whitening is an ideal gift because it produces results quickly, affordably and creates a glowing, radiant smile. If you fancy giving something a little more dramatic, you could opt for veneers, adult orthodontics or a smile makeover.

Research has consistently shown that the majority of people believe their smile is their most important physical feature, so buying somebody a gift to give them a beautiful smile will show them that you really care and would give them a huge confidence boost. You can also spread the cost of your gift if you cannot afford to pay the total cost up-front. Your loved one will never expect to receive a dental treatment in their stocking and it will make a welcome change to socks and bubble bath.

Are you one of the smiling graduates?

It’s the photograph that will hang on the walls of your parents, and grandparents, and aunts and uncles for the rest of their lives. With graduation ceremonies coming up for Universities across the country, proud parents will be preparing to spend a bit extra to get that traditional gown and scroll portrait of their child to take pride of place above the mantelpiece—and perhaps one or two (or more) smaller copies to send to relatives.

Tragically, these photographs come laden with the potential for disaster; looking uncomfortable in the robes is not uncommon, the cameras and lighting used can be unforgiving in making their subjects appear to ‘glisten’ rather than shine. Upsets enough without adding to them by being afraid to show stained teeth in what should be a proud, beaming smile.

There’s no reason for this photograph to look so uncomfortable, or to make the graduate cringe in coming years whenever they catch sight of it at home. A brilliant smile will demonstrate the pride and sense of accomplishment that the photograph is supposed to, and will make this photograph stand out for the right reasons.

With the wide range of cosmetic dentistry treatments available, perhaps parents could show one last act of parental kindness to their recently graduated offspring: rather than ordering many, many copies of the graduation portrait for every relative they know of, perhaps invest a little in the child’s smile—it’ll not just help the picture and the moment, but job interviews are just around the corner too, and a winning smile can be great helping hand.

Are Snap-on-smiles the way to go?

For the countless numbers around the world, having excellent dental health is just as important as visiting their doctor to have a flu jab. Many might have undergone hours of painful surgery over the course of several years to have a straight smile which, for them, is worth all this pain and time. However, a new dental product has arrived on the market which can give patients that straight smile instantaneously … but for how long?

What is this new dental innovation?

Requiring no filings or any dental operations, Snap-on Smile is an easy to apply set of teeth which gently attaches themselves to the gums and this doesn’t affect the health of them at all. Snap-on Smile does not cover the top of the mouth and leaves the person feeling comfortable with the quality of their teeth.

The advantages of Snap-on Smile

For some, the cost of dental health care might be vast and is a price which they cannot afford. Although they want that straight smile, they simply cannot budget this into their daily lives. Snap-on Smile can be easily removed and disposed after whatever time the person wants. There is no minimum period which Snap-on Smile can be used for and if the person decides that they do not want to wear their Snap-on Smile anymore they do not have to. Unlike metallic braces, Snap-on Smile is revolutionary as it gives you that straight smile at no extra cost and can be taken out whenever you want.

The material which Snap-on Smile is made from is called crystallised acetyl resin and this flexible material actually grows with your teeth. Its non-rigid structure allows for a malleable approach to dental treatment and is also used by NASA for crafting the cabinets for outer space.

Snap-on Smile also comes in many colours so there is no standard specification. If a person wants a pearly white smile this can be catered for them as does for someone who wants a darker colour which is more akin to the colour of their own teeth.

Is it the way to go?

Well, seen as results are for only a short time and the appliance is no replacement for the look of natural teeth, you may be better going with other treatment like teeth whitening or a combination of treatments in a smile makeover. Speak to your dentist today to find the best solution for your case.

The stars of Hollywood and their gleaming smiles

They have been entertaining us for generations. However, some stars weren’t naturally born with good looks and, in particular to their dental health, this has been altered for the good of their career. worldental.org recently carried out research into stars which have paid over $50,000 for their dental care which took into consideration implant, veneers and other smile makeover treatment.

Implants and veneers can range from $5,000 to $40,000 and depends on the quantity of teeth in need of repair and the dentist chosen. Other commonly found forms of treatment include teeth whitening which is not as costly as other forms of treatment but just as important to them.

Who are the most well-known dental professionals to the stars?

Dr. Kevin Sands clients include Robert Downey Jr., Charlie Sheen and Britney Spears where he treats his patients out of his Los Angeles practice. Based in New York is Dr. Catrise Austin whose respected clients include Isaac Hayes and Toni Braxton. Apart from these personalities, who else is well-known for having dental treatment?

The many that have opted

Zac Efron has become a teenage sensation but when he first started his spell in the stars his wide front tooth gap was not up to grade. It is reported that he spent $10,000 having his gap sorted and for his teeth to be whiter.
The movie star Tom Cruise has not always had a perfect smile. Even in his thirties, Cruise’s teeth were misaligned but after spending a reported $30,000 in straightening them this has been a wise investment for his film career.
During her earlier days, Catherine Zeta Jones had a large gap between her front teeth along with fang-shaped canine teeth. Apparently, she had porcelain veneers attached to her teeth that cost her a substantial teeth whitening bill.

Nicholas Cage is one of the most respected actors of his time but his teeth haven’t always been as good. Even as recent as 2003, he was seen sporting silver braces on his lower teeth which have helped to correct his crooked gnashers. Once his braces were removed, Cage had teeth whitening treatment to give him with the bright smile he has now.

The Smile Makeover … an A-list Smile for Everyone!

A perfect smile goes hand in hand with dazzling eyes and long glossy locks. It is one of those things that make a person instantly breathtaking. Unfortunately we aren’t all lucky enough to be born with such A-list good looks and a stunning smile is something of which we can only dream.

This unreachable desire though can now be a thing of the past with the help of cosmetic dentistry. Cosmetic dentistry procedures can now turn your smile from shabby to stunning in an instant and this is what we call a ‘smile makeover.’

Everybody has body issues

It is human nature to feel inadequate in today’s beauty obsessed, celebrity-driven culture. For many it’s the bums and tums and for equally as many it’s a less than stunning smile – maybe it’s a little too crooked, a little too yellow or showing a little more wear and tear than you would like. Bums and tums are easily disguised with the help of clever dressing but your smile is something you have no choice but to flaunt day after day after day.

Smile makeover transformation

A smile makeover generally means the transformation of an average smile into something stunning but it can mean something different for every individual. Maybe you have a chip or a gap in your teeth that needs to be fixed; maybe your teeth are crooked and you would like to achieve that perfectly straight smile; maybe your teeth are badly stained and you would like to achieve that Hollywood style bright white smile; you may even dislike the shape of your gums or the fine lines around your mouth and the lack of voluptuousness in your lips. All of these things and indeed any combination of the above can be fixed with a smile makeover.

The variety of options available for a smile makeover procedure means that no two procedures are the same. Whatever your individual dislikes about your smile may be a smile makeover will be custom designed to perfect those flaws. The procedure can mean a great number of things: veneers; bridges; crowns; cosmetic bonding; whitening treatments; orthodontic braces; dental implants; gum contouring and even botox. The options are endless and can be catered to suit your specific needs or desires.

The work can be large or small but the end result will generally be the same for every patient – a smile that turns heads, a smile that is breathtaking and a smile you will be proud to flash!

Specialist Orthodontics at Umbrella

What’s the difference between a dentist and an orthodontist?

The differences are quite small these days, but an orthodontist is more specialised than a dentist, focusing on the alignment of teeth and, as such, they are often works on cases involving braces. Dentists can also work on braces and other areas that orthodontics is concerned with, but an orthodontist has had further study and training.

What is a specialised orthodontist?

A vast majority of dentists are now qualified to perform teeth straightening treatment. The difference between this and a specialist orthodontist is an extra three years of training and study. In essence, specialised orthodontics is a similar vein to other expert areas, such as an endodontic or paediatric treatment.

A specialised orthodontist does what you would expect, specialising in the positioning and aesthetics of your teeth and smile. Dr Patel, resident specialist orthodontist at Umbrella, is registered to provide a range of cosmetic teeth straightening appliances to improve the aesthetics of your smile, including the likes of:

Invisalign – Invisalign braces have taken the orthodontic world by storm and are quickly becoming the number one alternative to fixed braces. They are nearly invisible and are ideal for small cosmetic changes to the alignment of the patient’s teeth. They are used in two week lengths for every stage and are available specifically for teens as well as the standard option.

Damon Braces – Damon braces can be used for more significant changes. They are very discreet, using thin wires and brackets and produce results much sooner than traditional braces. They are also designed to be less painful than orthodox braces which can be an issue for some patients. Damon braces are also much more hygienic, with less large parts making it more difficult for plaque to accumulate.

These are just two treatments that are available from Umbrella where a highly skilled and trained team perform world class orthodontic and cosmetic dentistry.

New protein to change dental implant procedures

Following the discovery of a new bone-creating protein, the face of dental implants is slated to change. Georgia Health Sciences University’s Interim Associate Dean for Research and Enterprise in the College of Dental Medicine, Dr. Ulf M.E. Wikesjo, said that bone morphogenic protein, BMP, induces superior bone quality.

During dental implant surgery, it is often necessary to graft bone in order to strengthen the existing bone at the location of the implant. However, in comparison with BMP, bone grafting is a slow process producing less effective results.

By using BMP to strengthen the bone before implant surgery, patients will have to endure fewer surgeries and will produce more bone quicker than by using traditional bone grafting. According to Dr. Wikesjo, implanting BMP in the sinus will form more bone in four weeks time than would be formed as a result of a bone graft.

“BMP is phenomenal, because it’s a true, off-the-shelf product with ease of use that can produce real results, and it could be the new gold standard for this procedure,” Dr. Wikesjo said.

Thinning bone is a problem associated with tooth loss and has to be dealt with before dental implants are inserted. This new discovery will be beneficial to a number of patients in need of dental implants to improve the aesthetics and functionality of their teeth.

Into a modern world

No matter how you look at it, it seems that a day doesn’t do by in the media that you hear of a remarkable dental treatment on offer which can possibly transform the dental appearance of practically everybody. Despite the cost associated with cosmetic dentistry, the number of people undergoing this type of treatment at London cosmetic dentists has risen with many reasons behind the cause of this.

The power of the A-Lister

With an ever increasing amount of celebrity magazines and the impact of the internet on an increasingly younger audience, we are exposed to a larger number of photographs showing these impressively good looking people who cannot help from showing off their pearly white teeth. Take a look at the latest issue of any gossip magazine and the chance is that you are bound to see photograph after photograph of straight, white teeth. And what do you normally find below these photographs? Only articles indicating how you can change your life around. The hint that this is the way forward for your dental health is staring you right in your face.

Other factors to this

Television plays a huge role in the rise of those having cosmetic dentistry. With an unlimited number of reality programmes currently on air, there is a strong possibility that you might see perfectly healthy teeth which makes a strong impression on the viewer. Even if you do not see this, there are a number of programmes which offer makeovers not only in America but also in the UK and in several other European countries.

Despite the recent financial crisis which seemed to hit every country across the world, we are often quoted by politicians and influential personalities that the coffers of the public are being tightened due to spending cuts and the rise in inflation. But, when you consider the positives that this can provide you in your public life as well as your private than the possibilities are endless.

Look Younger with Cosmetic Dentistry

In our image conscious society many people are concerned by the ageing process and are keen to do anything that can make themselves look younger than they actually are.  Millions of pounds are spent every year on age defying beauty products such as anti wrinkle cream. However, many people often overlook how the condition of their teeth affects how young or old they appear. (more…)
