Are you too embarrassed to smile?
We all have small things we want to change about ourselves. Whether it’s a little extra weight from the holiday you don’t seem to be able to get rid of, the misshapen nose you and your siblings inherited from your parents, or just a set of teeth that really need a new spruce of life.
With cosmetic dentistry seeing new advances in technology, equipment and methods on an almost daily basis, dental changes we’ve always wanted to make are now a reality.
Teeth Whitening
One very popular form of cosmetic dentistry is teeth whitening. Teeth can be stained by many things, from tobacco to coffee and tea and even fruits. To help bring a new shine back to your smile two forms of whitening are very common.
In-surgery whitening is done at the dental studio using a whitening laser or gel. The procedure can take as little as 15 minutes and results are noticeable almost immediately. The downside to this instant result is that it can be obviousness you’ve had work done. The affect is also not as long lasting as at-home whitening.
At-home whitening is also proving very popular. The treatment is done at home with a whitening kit which can be purchased from a dentist. Trays with whitening bleach are worn for a number of hours each day, over a pre-determined number of days or weeks, depending on the level of whitening you’re after.
While at-home whitening takes much longer than in-surgery, the results are generally accepted to be better and much longer lasting.
Dental veneers
Dental veneers are often called the ‘ultimate smile makeover’ because of their ability to fix just about any cosmetic dental problem.
Veneers are thin laminates that are cemented onto natural teeth and this method has caused them to be referred to as fake nails but for teeth! The laminates can be coloured to match the surrounding teeth and are a perfect way of covering chipped or crooked teeth, giving the patient a complete smile overhaul!
Veneers and whitening are just two ways to cosmetically enhance your teeth and give you a smile celebrities on the red carpet would envy.

Cost Efficient Smile Makeovers
Most people have some feature of their body that they don’t feel 100% comfortable with. In fact it’s such a common fact of life that phrases such as “Does my bum look big in this?” have become clichés quoted as often as the greatest works of philosophy and literature. In terms of body shape, often a change of diet and more regular exercise will produce the desired effect, but if you’re not comfortable with your smile then there is not a lot you can do to improve it without professional help.

One method of smile makeover which is becoming more and more common is using porcelain veneers. This method involves using a series of tooth shaped porcelain “shields” to essentially build a new smile over your old one, filling in any existing gaps and providing a bright, straight smile. Porcelain veneers aren’t suitable for everyone however, and some people may require additional orthodontic work to prepare their bite first. That said, if you are unsatisfied with your smile then you’ll never know what is possible until you speak to a cosmetic dentist, so why wait?
