The Risks of Cut Price Dentistry Overseas

The cost of good quality cosmetic dentistry in London isn’t cheap and it is this cost that causes many people to seek cheaper alternatives. One of these cheaper alternatives that is very popular with British people is travelling abroad to clinics where the same procedures can be performed at a much lower cost.

However, some recently conducted research has shown that a number of the dentists targeting British travellers with offers of budget teeth whitening and veneers are not completing these treatments to the standard that would be expected in the UK. In fact in some cases these procedures are performed entirely incorrectly which can lead to serious problems.

Experts are warning Britons travelling overseas for treatment to thoroughly research the credentials of their chosen dentists as the number of horror stories about irreparable damage to teeth are on the rise. Many of these problems stem from the fact that many of the countries where these low cost treatments are available do not enforce the same stringent regulations that dental clinics in the UK are expected to comply with. In many cases it is the lack of policies of this type that allow the procedures to be carried out so cheaply in the first place.

In some cases patients who’ve received a botched job abroad end up having spend a huge amount of money to have the damage corrected once they return to the UK so they may as well have spent the extra money to have the job done properly in UK in the first place.

It’s not just cut price cosmetic dentistry that people are travelling overseas for; surgery tourism is also extremely popular for people hoping to pay rock bottom prices for cosmetic surgery outside of the UK. However, be wary of low cost dentistry and surgery overseas as you may end up finding out it’s not only the price that’s been slashed.
